Dave Panzer, DC, DABCO

Dr. Panzer has maintained a busy private practice for 34 years! While at the University of Western States, he gained extensive graduate and post-graduate teaching experience in the realms of diagnosis and conservative management of spine-related disorders and evidence-based practice. Dr. Panzer is the author of several publications.


Mark Sepulveda, DC

Dr. Sepulveda maintains a wait-list chiropractic practice in Beaverton, OR and has done so since 1991. His 15 years of teaching experience at the University of Western States focused on advanced spinal and extraspinal manipulation. Dr. Sepulveda also serves as a professional legal witness, specializing in evidence-based health care decision-making.


Shireesh Bhalerao, DC, MC

Dr. Bhalerao has been in private chiropractic practice since 2001. During his time as an instructor at the University of Western States, he specialized in teaching diagnosis and management of sport-related injuries. His areas of specialization include spinal and extraspinal manipulation and evidence-based practice. He has several peer-reviewed publications.


Dave Perham, DC

While maintaining a private practice in an inter-disciplinary setting, Dr. Perham has significant teaching experience in spinal and extremity manipulative techniques, orthopedics of the spine and extremities, and extremity biomechanics. He has taught EBP to clinicians at a national level.


Karen Baranick, DC, MDT

Dr. Baranick has owned a private chiropractic practice for the last 10 years. She is just the second chiropractor in the state of Oregon to have been awarded the evidence-based McKenzie rehabilitative certification. She also has extensive experience teaching spinal orthopedic testing, biomechanics, and manipulation as well as experience training chiropractic interns in her clinic. To give back to her profession, Dr. Baranick is also on the Peer Review Committee for the Oregon Board of Chirorpactic Examiners (OBCE).


James Bowman, DC

Dr. Bowman specializes in treating recent and long-standing injuries that cause muscle and joint pain, reduced motion and disruption of normal function. He has extensive teaching experience in spinal- and extra-spinal joint mobilization and manipulation. Additionally, Dr. Bowman has substantive clinical and teaching experience in the realm of injury rehabilitation.


Tom Walton, DC

​Dr. Walton is a full-time faculty member at the National University of Natural Medicine, where he fills the role of course director and head of the physical medicine department. He has also been teaching physical diagnosis and manual therapies for close to a decade at the University of Western States. Dr. Walton maintains a busy part-time practice in SE Portland with a focus on solid patient education and fast results.


Jean Berg, LCSW

Jean has been directly involved in working with Individuals, families and communities for over 30 years as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker She has also worked with Portland Public Schools as an intervention specialist and school counselor. She has been an advocate in social justice, crisis intervention specialist and specialized in Trauma and Resiliency, in particular how secondary trauma impacts individual practitioners. Jean has strong focus and passion in Mindfulness, Restorative Justice and Trauma Informed Practices. She brings knowledge and skills in these areas and in particular has led restorative and crisis intervention groups for staff and families during times of crisis. Over the last five years she has facilitated trainings in Mindfulness for School Districts around the country and professional development for organizations. She facilitates workshops that assist practitioners to explore strategies to support good wellness: grounding yourself, letting go of patterns that exhaust you and finding paths to sustain well-being. Jean provides one and two day workshops to explore ways to build resilience and healthy patterns of practice.


Sue Brent

Sue Brent, has enjoyed over 40 years in public education. Currently, in a program management role at PPS Office of School Modernization a delightful departure and fun departure. She is part of the Oregon Courage Collaborative facilitator team in Portland, Oregon. A member of the 2013 Courage & Renewal Facilitator cohort, Sue has co-facilitated Courage to Lead retreat series through Lewis and Clark College where she also teaches as an adjunct professor in administrative leadership. Sue holds a Masters in Education from the University of Oregon, and an administrative license from Lewis and Clark College. Sue has specialized expertise working with students and teachers at all grade levels K-12. Her passion for her current career was motivated by her past participation in Courage to Lead, as well as her work with educators, and others in service professions.

Sue is most inspired by supporting others to hear their inner teacher speak as they reconnect soul and role, revitalizing the current vocations. Off time endeavors include mindfulness , yoga, hand drumming, cooking, and managing and participating with a team nurses and caregivers of her husband whose recent injury left him a quadriplegic. This has given Sue a crash course in medicine and rehabilitation. As it has provided a deeper understanding of the support needed for caregivers and those in the demands of medical and rehabilitation services .


Michael Schneider, DC, PhD

​Dr. Michael Schneider has over 30 years of clinical experience treating patients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications along with several textbook chapters and books. Dr. Schneider has prolific past and current, federally funded clinical research experience in the fields of spinal biomechanics and conservative management of spine-related disorders. He has particular interests in spinal stenosis, soft tissue therapies for muscle dysfunction, and fibromyalgia. Dr. Schneider has received numerous clinical and academic recognitions. He was granted the Presidential Award by the American Chiropractic Association and the Distinguished Service Award by the American Public Health Association in 2016 and two separate 1st prize research awards by the World Federation of Chiropractic.


Jim Gerber, DC

Dr. Gerber was Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at the University of Western States and Adjunct Faculty in the UWS College of Graduate Studies. He currently serves on the adjunct faculty at the University of Bridgeport Nutrition Institute and was an adjunct instructor at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine. He has given over one hundred postgraduate presentations for several chiropractic colleges and professional organizations. He graduated from UWS (then Western States Chiropractic College) in 1981, received his master’s degree in nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in 1986, and was board certified in nutrition and orthopedics. Dr. Gerber is the author of Handbook of Preventive and Therapeutic Nutrition (Aspen, 1993) and was a contributor to Conservative Management of Sports Injuries, 1st ed. (Williams & Wilkins, 1997), The Natural Pharmacy, 3rd ed. (Three Rivers Press, 2006), and to the Healthnotes online database on health and wellness. ​​


Jeremy Appleton, ND

Jeremy Appleton, ND is a licensed naturopathic physician and nutraceutical industry veteran in scientific and regulatory affairs, product development, and education. Dr. Appleton is the author of numerous articles on nutrition and botanical medicine as well as several books including MSM - The Definitive Guide and contributor to The Natural Pharmacy. He was chair of the nutrition department at National University of Natural Medicine from 1998 to 2003. He has also taught at Bastyr University, where he completed his residency in 1996. Dr. Appleton is currently Director of Medical and Scientific Affairs at PLT Health Solutions, a discoverer and developer of novel ingredients for the food and nutraceutical industries. He is a graduate of Reed College and National University of Natural Medicine and lives in Portland, OR.
